Continuing an emissions reduction programme that commenced in 1996, with the adoption of the first catalytic converters for commercial vehicles, Allport have taken delivery of a revolutionary, new articulated trailer, whose teardrop shape can reduce CO2 emissions by 20%.
Pioneered by Marks & Spencer the lightweight trailer can carry up to 16% more load than a standard trailer, while it's uniquely aerodynamic shape delivers a 10% fuel saving.
Developed by DON-BUR, the smooth rounded shape increases load space and mimics the perfect aerodynamic lines of a teardrop, significantly reducing drag and managing airflow to minimise the turbulent areas after the cab, under the chassis and behind the trailer
Allport fleet manager Mickey Bowditch commented. "Testing of the new trailer, on a variety of routes and carrying different mixes of cargo will commence without delay. Our objective is to ascertain the operational efficiency of this equipment, its load capacity and fuel saving."
"We have been following DON-BUR's development of the Teardrop trailer since the earliest prototypes and have every confidence that, should our trials be successful, adoption and roll-out across our fleet will significantly reduce Allport's carbon footprint."
