The Art of Zen(loc) and Driver Security

Freight transported on the road has always been targeted by criminals.

Thankfully most attempts at theft are opportunist and easily thwarted, but there are still a small number of more determined attacks which can be accompanied by threats of violence and intimidation.

Load integrity and driver safety are paramount to Allport so, when an inventor came along to demonstrate his innovative remote alarm, we were interested to see what it could add to our safety protocols.

Fitting alarms to the rear door of a container is not a new idea, but what Barry Schofield's invention could do, that others couldn't, was send a remote alert to the driver either in his cab, or another location.

For the first time a driver could notify authorities of a security breach without leaving the safety of the cab, or risking assault when physically inspecting the rear doors.

Allport Operations Director, Kevin Witmore. "It's a no-brainer for me - protection of my drivers and the goods they transport is vital. We'll trial the alarm on a handful of vehicles and, if it works, roll out to the rest of the fleet as soon as we can."
